Windows 7 support with the latest generation processors

Back last year Microsoft announced they would only support the then new generation of Intel processors, 6th gen Skylake, in Windows 7 until July 17th 2017. There was push back at the time and they revised their position to extend support to July 2018 and also patch all critical security updates until extended support ends on January 14th 2020. Microsoft extended the time to allow organisations more time to complete their Windows 10 migrations.

Now the next generation of processors, 7th gen Kaby Lake, are out and it seems Microsoft is going to be actively enforcing the restriction of these processors on Windows 7. There have been reports of a Windows Update error saying:

"Your PC uses a processor that isn’t supported on this version of Windows"

This error is also being received on users running the new AMD Ryzen processors. Microsofts resolution to the error is to upgrade to upgrade to Windows 10.

All of our systems have been designed with this is mind and our typical systems page lists what configurations support which operating systems.
